While the freelancing industry has a huge growth prospect, not everyone makes it big here. Unlike regular employment where almost every employee is trained according to the requirement of the organization, there is no such scope with freelancing. It is all on the freelancer to equip themselves with the required skills but even then one may fail to make it big working as a freelancer. Let us find out why successful professionals who might excel in an office environment may fail when freelancing from home.
When working as a freelancer, the primary trait to be successful is patience. Freelancing is not a readily available employment opportunity where there is a fixed income and a job is readily available. It involves bidding or sending proposals to clients who have posted jobs and hoping that their proposal would match their requirements. However, there could be multiple freelancers bidding for the same job and hence getting shortlisted might not be entirely upon the skills of the freelancer. Moreover, every client has different expectations and hence freelancers might have to try hard before they land a job. They might have to spend hours studying how to design proposals so that they are shortlisted. Hence, if there is a lack of patience, it is not possible to excel in freelancing.
Next comes the remuneration factor. Professionals working as a freelancer need to invest considerable time and work on low-paying jobs initially and build a reputation for themselves before they can bid for high-paying freelance jobs. Beginners need to be content with the low pay initially and understand that they are in the learning phase where the focus should be more on gathering experience and learning than earning high remuneration.
Finally, people make mistakes choosing jobs and not treating this profession seriously. Freelancing demands even more concentration and sincerity than regular jobs as the worker interacts and works directly for clients. If freelancers develop a lacklustre attitude due to the unorganized nature of freelancing, they would fail at freelancing.
