Researches across the world are already racing for developing a vaccine for Covid-19 with over 170 candidates are tracked by the world health organization. The vaccine usually needs years for testing and more time is needed to generate at a scale where scientists hope to develop Covid-19 in 12 to 18 months. Vaccines Will stimulates your immune systems for developing antibodies. So, they need to follow the best safety standards than other drugs cause they are offered to tons of healthy people.
Why Covid-19 vaccine taking too long?
The vaccine isn’t just a cake to bake within minutes. It is given to millions of people. If those vaccine small defaults in it it can cost millions of people’s lives. So, they are many testing levels conducted for testing the Covid-19 vaccine.
In its pre-clinical stage of vaccine testing, researchers will test their vaccine with animals to find if it triggers an immune response.
Then in Phase I of this clinical testing, the vaccine is tested to a very small group of people to define either it is safety assured to know more about the immune response which it provokes.
In Phase 2 researchers test the vaccine on hundred of human beings so scientists will learn more about perfect dosage and safety.
In phase 3, the vaccine is tested on thousands of people for ensuring its safety which involves effectiveness and rare side effects. These trails include a control group that is given a placebo.
Is it getting faster?
Many acceleration efforts are now underway such as White House operation warp speed that is meant for cutting with regulatory red tape for speeding up vaccine development and get ready for distributing vaccines when they get FDA approval. US government pledged more than $10 billion for many vaccine manufacturers for securing the whole 800 million vaccine doses.
Vaccines take about 10-15 years to approve and develop within four phases which involve human trails. With operation warp speed, then submitting every application section after every four phases are finished, vaccine projects that are approved could submit data to FDA by bits.
This program is financial backing efforts for beginning manufacturing doses where clinical trails which are still ongoing. This means if, when that vaccine is approved, there will be many doses for distributing across the nation.
What about the US, China, UK and Russia?
We are seeing a lot of news about a few countries that are saying that Covid-19 is getting and will be ready at the end of 2020. Is that true? Let’s have a look at them.
- AstraZeneca/ Oxford University:
AstraZeneca paused its testing for their vaccine which might have begun that rests on 100,000 human volunteers in three countries and prepared to start in the US. Dr. Sarah Gilbert primarily said that they are looking for a fall 2020 release that might have delayed now. But the UK health minister started this pause is not a setback.
- Moderna( USA):
Apparent scuffle by government regulators that is delayed huge scale of human testing. Moderna’s CEO announced that they think that Moderns can know by Thanksgiving if the AstraZeneca vaccine is effective and safe which can make it distribute at 2020 early.
- SinoVac By China:
This company testing on 10,000 people in China and 9,000 people in Brazil which is ready to test Indonesia people. SinoVac CEO announced their vaccine will be ready at early of 2021.
- SinoPharm By China:
These are testing on 15,000 people in the middle east the state-based company expects to last for 3–6 months. Tests found by this drug is safe and effective.
- Pfizer By US:
This company’s four Covid-19 vaccines volunteers are in the early stage of human testing were two of them tracked by the FDA. Pfizer CEO said that their company will be ready for applying for FDA approval by October.
Russia already announced that they have a vaccine for Covid-19 but this vaccine tested over 76 human beings and not by several rigorous methods.
Bharat biotech labs announced that their animal testing results of Covaxin shown positive results. Oxford Cold-19 vaccines trails resumed again where Russia RDIF associating with Dr.reddy’s laboratories for conducting trails of Sputnik v.
What happened if we Never found Covid-19 Vaccines?
The more longer we move forward without vaccines everyone focus shift towards treatments like antiviral drug remedies which is a steroid for maximising survival rates in serious cases. Several viruses which are fatal are now no longer causing death thanks to effective therapeutic treatments. The global population will reach to 60%-70% rate needed for hed immunity to secure who are not immune which is the aim for the vaccine. Even if everything goes right and Covid-19 vaccines is ready at early of 2021 you need to wait to get shot which can be at end of 2021. We can do nothing but hoping and praying for getting Covid-19 shots as possible.
